Here’s some key considerations which should help you decide on getting the perfect song for your bridal entrance.
Length of Song
The length of the song would be affected by certain conditions. How many bridesmaids are there, and will they be marching in before the bride? Take this scenario (1 bride, 4 bridesmaids). Each bridesmaid ideally should have about 10-15 seconds gap between when they start their walk. The ‘gap’ is important so that the photographer would be able to get good individual photographs of the bridesmaids walking in. Do also consider how long your aisle is. The longer the aisle, the more time you should allocate for the walk.
Now applying some math:
4 Bridesmaids x 15seconds = 60 seconds or 1 minute
Bride Entrance = 1 minute (to be safe, I’ll explain why.)
Total Track Length = 2-3 minutes
To be on the safe side, you should not have a song that ends exactly when you expect the bride to reach the aisle, as there are many factors which could potentially delay the bride’s walk. You do not want to find yourself in the situation where the the bride is midway through the aisle but the song has already ended (awkward silence).
Instead, you should be using a ‘fade out’. Have the DJ / Sound Engineer slowly fade the song out as the bride approaches the front stage. This way, you will never have the risk of the song ending too soon / too late.
Volume
There’s really only two options here. You need to determine when the climax (loudest point of the song) would be. And the only two locations which make sense are:
- Option 1: Right at the start of the bride’s entrance
- Option 2: Right when the bride reaches the front stage
I personally would go with Option 1 – simply because it makes the brides entrance more grand. Also, Option 2 wouldn’t leave a lot of time for the song to play out once the bride reaches the front stage (but some may think otherwise). Anyway, it’s your call!
Intro of song
Most people would like Pachelbel’s Canon or the classic Mendelssohn’s Wedding March at the beginning of the song. I think this is a really good arrangement as it kind of announces to the guests that they should be ready and signifies the start of the bridal procession.
The song can then transition into the song of your choice. Canon / Wedding March can both easily transition smoothly into any song that you want.
